How to import historical trades

You can bulk import your historical buy and sell trades in to Sharesight by uploading a spreadsheet. Sharesight supports the SettledActivity.csv file downloaded from Merrill. Follow the steps below for step-by-step instructions on how to bulk import your historical trades.

  1. Login to your Merrill account.

  2. Hover over Accounts and, under Account Resources, click Download Account Data.

  3. Under Choose Category or Account, select your account.

  4. Under Choose Application, select Spreadsheets and Text.

  5. Under Choose Settings, select Activity. Under Activity Filters, check only Security Transactions and uncheck all others (Sharesight only imports buy and sell trades, so dividends and other activity would be rejected). Next to Settlement Dates, select Custom Range and choose the date range you want to download.

  6. Under Download, select Comma-Separated Spreadsheet (.CSV) and click Download. This saves a SettledActivity.csv file (for example, SettledActivity_042025_042025.csv). Merrill limits each download to a 3-month date range, so repeat this step for each 3-month period you need.

  7. Check that your file download contains the required information.

  8. Login to or Sign up for Sharesight.

  9. Click the Add investment button.

  10. Select the Upload via broker tile.

  11. Search and select 'Merrill'.

  12. Upload your file. (You will be able to review the import before it is saved)

How to import new trades

Sharesight supports Merrill using the trade confirmation emails feature. Read more about how to automatically forward your contract notes in this guide.
